Meet Computers 1, 2, 3 and 4, H&M’s Newest Models
Take a good look at this photograph. Are you worried that these H&M models’ features have been airbrushed away or that they could be suffering from eating disorders?
Well, don’t. Because while their faces are real, those bodies are not–they are actually entirely computer generated. In a statement released by H&M, Press Officer Hakan Andersson admitted, “It’s not a real body, it is completely virtual and made by a computer. We take pictures of the clothes on a doll…then create the human appearance with a program on your computer.”
So, ladies, when you head over to H&M’s online store to check out the holiday goods, don’t expect to be looking at flesh-and-blood models blowing kisses in festive red and green knits. Apparently, our bodies simply aren’t good enough to show off chain store clothing.
Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation’s Helle Vaagland poignantly stated:
"This illustrates very well the sky-high aesthetic demands placed on the female body. The demands are so great that H&M, among the poor photo models, cannot find someone with both body and face that can sell their bikinis."
Not okay, H&M. Totally not okay.
